Independent School District #458 Board Meeting
November 17, 2025 5:30 PM
I. Call to Order: 5:37 PM
Roll Call: Present — Mike Pfeil, Kenna Krahmer, Maria Haler, Paula Heckman, James Farnum and Aaron Brudelie
Staff present: Lisa Shellum, Jennifer Bowers, Tina Raske, and Eva Sonnabend.
II. Approval of Agenda:
Motioned by Krahmer, and seconded by Haler, to approve/amend the November 17, 2025 Board Agenda. Motion passed on a 6-0 vote.
III. Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes:
Motioned by Heckman, and seconded by Farnum, to approve the October 20, 2025 regular meeting minutes. Motion passed on a 6-0 vote.
IV. Presentation of Bills/Finance (consent agenda)
Motioned by Brudelie, and seconded by Haler, to approve the November 2025 bills as presented in check register and wire transfer information. Motion passed on a 6-0 vote.
V. Committees: 
A. Buildings and Grounds - Update on project. - demolition and construction started in upper elementary rooms, by end of this week the lower elementary 3 classrooms will be moved, tunnel to be placed inside for student/staff travel inside building for winter, floor work to be determined at a later date, mold and asbestos abatements to be completed will be sectioned off, some mini splits will be retrofitted to add heating coils for use in cafeteria and auditorium areas, information regarding fire suppression by going along walls instead of the ceiling, pricing request for changes to project, carpeting possibly over holiday break
B. Negotiations - to meet right after this meeting.
C. Sports Committee - November meeting - Fall coach evaluations discussed and discussed the possibility of adding Martin Luther into football based upon numbers.
D. Community Education - no attendance for movie day, Lego and slime events going over well.
VI. Information Items
A. Veteran’s Day Program - Tuesday November 11, 2025 - suggestion to post on Facebook page also.
B. Christmas Concert K-12 - December 15, 2025 - 3 concerts that night.
C. Community Fun Night - December 2, 2025 during basketball game 7-12 grade fundraising opportunities
D. Health Insurance - rate increase of 19% with current provider, getting additional quotes.
E. Mold Abatement/Asbestos Abatement - 2 quotes in packet
F. Yearbook Company Change - Treering Yearbooks
G. Water main break legal update - trial date set, list of questions to be answered, list of people for deposition, no easement for reinstalling water main under building again.
H. Thank you from Crosby family.
I. Math and Reading Title night.

VII. Action Items
A. Winter Coaches
A motion was offered by Heckman, seconded by Haler, and carried to approve the winter coaches as presented. Motion passed on a 6-0 vote.
B. Donation
A motion was offered by Farnum, seconded by Krahmer, and carried to approve the donation of $123,128.91 from Anonymous Donor for scholarships. Motion passed on a 6-0 vote.
C. Resignations
A motion was offered by Heckman, seconded by Krahmer, and carried to approve the resignations of Shandon O’Brien. Motion passed on a 6-0 vote.
D. Mold Abatement
A motion was offered by Farnum, seconded by Heckman, and carried to approve the proposal from VCI Environmental, Inc. for $20,770.00 for mold abatement. Motion passed on a 6-0 vote.
E. Asbestos Abatement
A motion was offered by Haler, seconded by Heckman, and carried to approve the proposal from VCI Environmental, Inc. for $12,590.00 for asbestos abatement. Motion passed on a 6-0 vote.
F. Seniority List
A motion was offered by Krahmer, seconded by Heckman, and carried to approve the seniority list. Motion passed on a 6-0 vote.
