Independent School District #458 Board Meeting
May 19, 2026 5:30 PM
I. Call to Order: 5:32
Roll Call: Present — Mike Pfeil, Maria Haler, Paula Heckman and James Farnum
Absent — Kenna Krahmer and Aaron Brudelie
Staff Present: Lisa Shellum, Jennifer Brunick, and Eva Sonnabend.
II. Approval of Agenda:
Motioned by Farnum, and seconded by Haler, to approve/amend the May 19, 2026 Board Agenda. Motion passed on a 4-0 vote.
III. Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes:
Motioned by Heckman, and seconded by Haler, to approve the April 20, 2026 regular minutes. Motion passed on a 4-0 vote.
IV. Presentation of Bills/Finance (consent agenda)
Motioned by Farnum, and seconded by Heckman, to approve the May 2026 bills as presented in check register and wire transfer information. Motion passed on a 4-0 vote.
V. Committees:
A. Buildings and Grounds -building Update
B. Sports Committee - June 16 5:30 at Granada
VI. Information Items
A. Graduation May 22, 2026 7:00 p.m.
B. Kindergarten graduation - May 21, 2026 10:00 a.m.
C. Calendar 2026-2027
E. Awards programs - Elementary May 26th 1:30 - High School May 19th 1:00
F. K-3 attended play at Martin Luther College in New Ulm
G. 6th grade field trip to state capitol and Fort Snelling
H. 3 positions on school board up for election this fall
VII. Action Items
A. Graduates
A motion was offered by Heckman, seconded by Farnum, to approve the list of graduating seniors. Motion passed on a 4-0 vote.
B. MSHSL Resolution
A motion was offered by Heckman, seconded by Haler, to approve the Resolution for Membership in the Minnesota State High School League. Motion passed on a 4-0 vote.
C. Resignation
A motion was offered by Farnum, seconded by Heckman, to approve the resignation of Thea Nutt - paraprofessional - Barton Teacher. Motion passed on a 4-0 vote.
VIII. Reports
A. Superintendent/Principal: BakerTilly engagement letter
IX. Adjournment
Motioned by Heckman, and seconded by Haler, to adjourn at 6:38. Motion passed on a 4-0 vote.
