Independent School District #458 Board Meeting

June 26, 2023 6:30 PM

I. Call to Order: 6:34 PM

Roll Call: Present — Mike Pfeil, Maria Haler (arrived at 6:41), Paula Heckman, James Farnum and Jeff Nauman

Absent — Kenna Krahmer

Staff Present: Lisa Shellum and Eva Sonnabend.

II. Approval of Agenda:

Motioned by Heckman, and seconded by Farnum, to approve/amend the June 26, 2023 Board Agenda. Motion passed on 4-0 vote.

III. Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes:

Motioned by Nauman, and seconded by Farnum, to approve the May 15th, 2023 regular meeting minutes. Motion passed on 4-0 vote.

IV. Presentation of Bills/Finance (consent agenda)

Motioned by Heckman, and seconded by Nauman, to approve the June 2023 bills as presented in check register and wire transfer information. Motion passed on 4-0 vote.

V. Committees:

A. Buildings and Grounds - go over roof bids, playground update, and flooring.

B. Sports Committee - Valley Conference update and information on indoor scoreboard

C. Negotiations Committee met and set up a schedule of meetings.

VII. Information Items

A. Fire Marshall final visit

B. Proposed COVID budgets

C. Legislative update

D. Fall 2023/24 F/R lunch expectations

VIII. Action Items

A. Roof

A motion was offered by Farnum, seconded by Nauman, and carried to approve the roof bids from GAGS for $172,350.00 with a 10% contingency. Motion passed on 5-0 vote.

B. Resignations

A motion was offered by Heckman, seconded by Farnum, and carried to approve the resignations of Staci Bottin, Heidi Voyles, Cheryl Barickman, and Lyndal Kosmatka. Motion passed on 5-0 vote.

C. Hiring

A motion was offered by Heckman, seconded by Haler, and carried to approve the hiring of Deborah Sorenson for kitchen. Motion passed on 5-0 vote.

D. Environmental Consulting

A motion was offered by Farnum, and seconded by Heckman, and carried to the base contract for services, 2023-24 with Harbo Consulting for $12,600.00. Motion passed on 5-0 vote.

E. LTFM 10 Year Plan

A motion was offered by Heckman, seconded by Farnum, and carried to approve resolution adopting the school District's Fiscal Year (FY) 25 Long-Term Facilities Maintenance Ter-Year Plan for FY23-33. Motion passed on 5-0 vote.

F. Insurance

A motion was offered by Haler, seconded by Nauman, and carried to accept the insurance quote from EMC Insurance for property and liability for $42,938.52 and from SFM for workman’s compensation for $16,889.00. Motion passed on 5-0 vote.

G. Amended Budget FY2023

A motion was offered by Heckman, seconded by Haler, and carried to approve the 2022-23 Amended Budget as presented. Motion passed on 5-0 vote.

H. Proposed Budget FY2024

A motion was offered by Farnum, seconded by Nauman, and carried to approve the 2023-24 Proposed Budget as presented. Motion passed on 5-0 vote.

I. Maintenance Agreement - Total Mechanical

A motion was offered by Heckman, seconded by Farnum, and carried to approve the Preventative Maintenance Agreement with Samuel Adams for the 2023-24 school year in the amount of $10,080.00. Motion passed on 5-0 vote.

J. Technology

A motion was offered by Farnum, seconded by Nauman, and carried to table the base contract for services, 2023-24 with Shepp’s PC Repair. Motion passed on 5-0 vote.

K. Donations

A motion was offered by Heckman, seconded by Haler, and carried to accept the donations from Truman Pride for $1,444.50 for tables in 1st grade and from Bayer Foundation for $5,000.00 for Food Shelf. Motion passed on 5-0 vote.

K. Reading Curriculum for 2023-24- 2028-29

A motion was offered by Nauman, seconded by Heckman, and carried to accept the proposal to purchase new Reading Curriculum from CKLA for grades K-8 with a 6 year license. Amount $65,367.66. Motion passed on 5-0 vote.

IX. Reports

A. Superintendent/Principal: chromebooks will be used as classroom sets upcoming this year.

X. Adjournment

Motioned by Farnum, and seconded by Nauman, to adjourn at 8: PM. Motion passed on 5-0 vote.
