Mary Ann Wood was born on Aug. 14, 1941, to Stanley and Neva (Wood) Pegors at home in rural Truman. She attended District #19 Country School. At the age of nine, Mary Ann asked Jesus into her heart and became a child of God. She graduated from Truman High School in 1959 and then attended Bethel College in St. Paul. She filed checks and operated the keypunch machine at American National Bank in St. Paul. She completed the IBM keypunch operator training and then made programs for keypunch machines at Investor Diversified Services in Minneapolis.
On March 17, 1962, Mary Ann was united in marriage to the love of her life, Philip Wood, at Huntley Baptist Church. After their marriage, Philip and Mary Ann lived in Huntley for a year and then moved to Philip’s farm northwest of Huntley. In December 2019, Philip and Mary Ann moved together to Woodland Manor Assisted Living in Fairmont. After Philip’s death in 2022, Mary Ann continued to live at Woodland Manor Assisted Living apartment until August 2023 when she moved into Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont.
Mary Ann was a member over the years at Huntley Baptist Church, First Baptist Church in Winnebago, Fairmont Covenant Church and most recently at Bethel Evangelical Free Church in Fairmont. She served many roles in each church. She was graciously used by God to be a prayer warrior, encourager, one who came alongside others in their times of need, mentor to other women and also a godly mother who prayed for her children and grandchildren. Mary Ann’s passions were her faith, family, friends and fur babies. She had dear friends from her neighborhood and farming community, high school and college, church, women’s Bible studies and from raising and selling puppies. She continued to make very special friendships as she moved through the last chapter of her life at Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center. She truly loved listening, talking and spending time with each of them. Mary touched many lives and will be greatly missed.
